Scholarship Provided by ARCS Foundation, Inc.


Purpose:
The purpose of the Los Angeles Chapter's Scholarship Program is to provide financial assistance to science students of great achievement and promise -- students who can make significant contributions to the scientific and technological strength of the United States.


Objectives:
Provide the opportunity for scholars to reach and maintain high academic performance.

Award to the scholars 100% of all contributions to the ARCS Annual Scholarship Campaign.

Continue the policy that all solicitation expenses are underwritten and all administrative services are provided by the ARCS Foundation members.

Award minimum scholarships of $10,000 per scholar.  Larger amounts may be awarded when the need is greater.  ARCS Foundation members do not participate in the selection of individual scholars.

Insure that each school receiving a scholarship grant from the Los Angeles Chapter administers the grant and awards the scholarship funds according to the ARCS Foundation's high academic guidelines.

Award Criteria:
Awardees must be full-time students majoring in the natural sciences, medicine or engineering.

Awardees must be exceptional students with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Awardees must demonstrate the need for financial support to complete their educational program.

Awardees must be selected without regard to race, creed or gender.

Awardees must be United States citizens.

Awardees must continue to meet ARCS Foundation guidelines in order to be supported with an ARCS scholarship until the started degree is accomplished.

Source of Funds:
The ARCS Foundation receives no revenue from Federal, State or Local governments.

The major portion of the Los Angeles Chapter's scholarship funds comes from two sources:

Annual Scholarship Campaign -- 100% of all monies contributed to the Annual Scholarship Campaign is tax-deductible and goes directly the the scholars.  Foundations, corporations and individuals are solicited in person and by mail.

Annual Benefit Gala - the ARCS Foundation awards the net proceeds of the Benefit Gala to the scholars.  Members solicit foundations, corporations and individuals to participate in this event, and there is a mandatory financial obligation for all ARCS Foundation members to participate.  

The tax-deductible amount follows IRS guidelines.

The ARCS Foundation provides a way for diverse members of the community from business, education and civic endeavors to combine their efforts and make a significant contribution to the nation's future through the advancement of scientific education.
