SAT & ACT BASICS

NOTE: If you are thinking about attending college
             in the state of Illinois, Colorado, Michigan,
             Kentucky, or Wyoming you need to take
             the ACT. These states require the ACT.


SAT BASICS


Length
- 3 hours, 45 minutes


Format
- Ten sections covering three test areas: Math, Critical Reading,
  and Writing.

- The first section is the essay (25 minutes).

- The last section is a multiple-choice writing section(10 minutes).

- There is one unscored section that does not count towards your
  score.


Scoring
- Each of the three exam sections (Math, Critical Reading, and
  Writing is scored on a scale of 200-800, for a combined maximum
  score of 2400.

ACT BASICS


Length
- 2 hours, 55 minutes (3 hours, 25 minutes if taking the


Format
- Four core sections-English, Reading, Math, and Science-and an
  optional Writing Section

- The first section is English (45 minutes).

- The last section is either Science (35 minutes) or
  Writing (30 minutes)


Scoring
- Each of the four exam sections receives a scale score of 1-36.

- These scores are then averaged to get a student's composite score,
  which can range from 1-36.
