ALLEN E. BROUSSARD SCHOLARSHIPS

These scholarships are available to all minority students and are intended to help defray the costs of tuition and related expenses for promising future lawyers whose academic achievement, dedication to public service and strong character are in keeping with the late Justice Broussard's beliefs. Because of a unique partnership with the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarships Fund, applicants interested in the Broussard Scholarship need only to complete the Legal Opportunity application.


AMERICAN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation, the Sidney B. Williams Jr. Scholarship addresses the need to increase the number of minority intellectual property attorneys and to bring these attorneys to the attention of firms and corporations as candidates for employment The $10,000 Law Scholarships will be awarded to minority students developing a career in intellectual property law. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund is assisting the Foundation by administering the application and selection process.


ATLA RICHARD D. HAILEY LAW STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

These scholarships are open to all first- and second-year African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American, Native America, and Bi-Racial law student members of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA). A 500-word essay about how you meet the criteria as well as up to three recommendations from a faculty adviser, trial advocacy professor, dean, ATLA member and/or trial lawyer are required. Applications are available on the ATLA website. Scholarships will be awarded to the applicants who best meet, but not limited to, the criteria listed below:
1. exhibit an interest and proficiency of skills in trial advocacy;
2. express a desire to represent victims;
3. demonstrate a commitment to ATLA and dedication to its mission through involvement in an ATLA student chapter and Minority Caucus activities;
4. show a financial need for the scholarship.

    LINN INN MARK T. BANNER SCHOLARSHIP

    The Linn Inn Mark T. Banner Scholarship is open to law students pursuing a career in intellectual property law. The scholarship is part of the Richard Linn American Inn of Court’s commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers from diverse backgrounds.


    MILBANK DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

    The firm provides Diversity Scholarships to create opportunities to bring about a more diverse workplace. Each year, Milbank will name up to five scholarship recipients who will be offered a salaried summer associate position in one of the firm's three domestic offices and a $15,000 scholarship to be distributed at the beginning of a student's third year of law school. Students who are members of groups traditionally under-represented in large law firms are encouraged to apply.     WILEY MANUEL LAW FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

    Wiley William Manuel (1927-1981) was the first African American California Supreme Court Justice. Justice Manuel was deeply concerned about the social, economic, and legal problems facing persons of color.     WOMBLE CARLYLE SCHOLARS PROGRAMS

    Established in 2004, the Womble Carlyle Scholars Program awards scholarships to diverse rising second year law students who present solid academic credentials, personal achievement outside the school environment, and significant participation in community service.  This program is designed to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in the bar.  The scholarship is awarded to diverse law students at schools in most of the states in which the firm has offices.
    In addition to the scholarship, an offer of summer employment as a Summer Associate in one of the firm's eleven offices is extended to the Scholar after his/her second year of law school.  The Scholar may choose to work at the firm all, half(at least six weeks), or none of the summer.  The firm will determine in which office the Scholar works, but every effort will be made to satisfy the Scholar's office preference.  Scholar salaries during the summer will be the same as the firm's other Summer Associates in each office.
    The scholarship application consists of two parts and may be submitted separately.  A complete application, cover letter and resume are to be submitted by May 15,2009.  The final portion of the scholarship application is due by Tuesday, July 7, 2009

    Scholarship Provided by Blacks at Microsoft



    Blacks at Microsoft Scholarships


    Blacks at Microsoft (BAM) is a company-sponsored diversity organization dedicated to supporting the continued growth and development of African-American employees at Microsoft Corporation. This year, BAM will award two $5,000 scholarships to outstanding high school seniors who are interested in pursuing careers in technology. The scholarships are renewable, so winners who continue to meet the criteria can receive an annual $5,000 award for up to four years.
    Requirements

    To be considered for a BAM Scholarship, you must:
    Be a high school senior of African descent (for example, African American, African, Ethiopian, etc.).
    Plan to attend a four-year college or university in the fall of 2009.
    Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, computer information systems, or select business programs (such as finance, business administration, or marketing).
    Demonstrate a passion for technology.
    Demonstrate leadership at school or in the community.
    Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
    Require financial assistance to attend college.

    How to Apply

    To apply for a BAM Scholarship, print and fill out the application. Enclose it in an envelope with the following items:
    Two letters of recommendation. At least one letter must be from a faculty or staff member at your school. Letters of recommendation should be original and should not be duplicates of college recommendation letters. (Letters must be on letterhead.)
    Résumé. Your résumé should include the following information:
    —Extracurricular activities (school and community related)
    —Honors and awards that you have received (if possible, include awards that are technology related)
    —Work experience
    Picture of yourself.
    Transcript. Include an official "sealed" copy of your current academic transcript. (Unofficial copies will not be accepted.)
    Two essays.
    1. In no more than 500 words, describe how you plan to engage in the technology industry in your future career. (If you have done exemplary work using technology during high school, please describe that also.)


    2. In no more than 250 words, demonstrate your financial need for this scholarship.
